Is it summer yet & Thrive Forward Sport Edition

Today’s Workout: AM lifting/strength and PM yoga@ Om Factory

So it was 80 degrees today in NYC.. did we completely miss spring or something? Even though today was nice, I do like spring and a small part of me is happy it will be getting a little cooler this weekend. I plan on going hiking in my brand new hiking shoes that Karl and I bought on impulse. Now we have to make sure we use them because they aren’t cheap. That being said, I did enjoy sitting and eating lunch while looking at the flowers planted by the city of NY in 80 degrees today.

Unfortunately, this beautiful weather got me thinking about the summer, wearing bikinis, and also about starting training for my first marathon. So yeah, I sort of panicked because I can’t believe its already this warm out and I’m just not ready for it. Especially for the marathon training. I want to do it right and I want to do it healthy most importantly, from the inside out. Which means no beer…

beer

But no, even though it sounds delicious, I will not have beer. Not only does it add to the waistline which is the opposite of what I’m trying to do, but I also have upcoming races this year that I want to be tip-top for.

This is where the new Vega Thrive Forward Sport Edition program is coming in for me. You may have read my review in the past of the original Vega Thrive Forward Program created by Brendan Braizer and remember how much I love it. Now, they have introduced a brand new part of the program focused on sports nutrition to pair with their Vega Sport line.. um, can you say amazing?! How many runners (including me) have wondered how to eat more plant-based but still have energy they need? This will give you the answers… for free.

I’ll be talking more about the program the more I, myself, go through it but it includes:

Clean Sport Nutrition: Protein, Recovery, Training
Endurance Training
Strength Training
Functional Strength

Just like the original, you get videos, recipes, tips, and a TON of information that’s going to help me meet my running goals while still eating clean and mostly plant-based.

Here’s one video about endurance training sources for athletes:

My pre-summer goal is to incorporate as much of this program as I can as often as I can. For the original Thrive Forward, I printed out and made a binder of recipes and important information that I learned. I plan on doing the same with the Sport Edition, but making it a priority since I am so active and have a marathon (whattt?!) coming up. I NEED to put better food in my body!

  1. Hi there! I live right outside NYC in NJ and it was HOT here today too (and it will be tomorrow!). I’m also glad the temps will be going back down, I’m ready for warmer weather just not this warm :)
I’m going to make sure I’m ready for training in the summer weather by hydrating, eating clean and finding a good balance between carbs, protein and fruits and veggies!

  2. Man I wish it was 80 degrees here! The sun has finally been shining consistently but we have this super strong gusts constantly so being outside hasn’t been the best.
I’m definitely looking forward to summer; I always seem more motivated to workout and be active when the sun is shining. Plus that means beach runs!

We skipped spring too. It was 86 degrees yesterday! I love the warmer temps but I was hoping the major heat held off just a little longer :/

  4. I am and am not ready for summer… not ready for my apartment to be boiling again! But ready for early morning summer workouts. They are just so different than getting up early in the winter!

  5. I’m not ready for summer either. I love spring, when it gets light early for morning runs but it’s not disgustingly humid.
Do you know what training plan you’re using for the marathon yet? So exciting!

  6. It’s warmer here in Rochester (NY) than it has been, but it’s not consistent. I can’t complain too much because the snow seems to be staying away (thank goodness). Spring weather and rain is here (I guess I can’t complain about that too much).

I have been forcing myself to hydrate more in preparation for summer running

I’m seriously not understanding the weather in NYC! It went from 45 to 80 in a snap…not that I’m complaining. :)

What kind of hiking shoes did you buy? I plan on doing some hiking and camping this summer so I need to buy a pair.

  8. Kim @ Healthy Nest

What! 80?!?! That’s craziness! Lucky girl. We’re in full-on grey/rainy day mode. No beer is a sad thing…that’s dedication!

  9. It hit 93 degrees in Baltimore today! We never have a real spring so I’m not too surprised but it feel too fast!

  10. Jen

Since spring and fall are the best seasons in NYC (I think), we better get a good spring! I’ll be so bummed if we hop straight to summer.

  11. I’m going to be spending my summer training for a marathon as well, so I’m getting nervous especially with my repeated injuries that keep happening. Hopefully I will learn how to train a little smarter this summer!

  12. Thanks for sharing the Thrive Forward program. I need more help in the nutrition department.

It can be in the 70’s one day then the 40’s the next in Indiana. I can’t wait for it to warm up and STAY warm!! Good luck with your training!
